§ 94-71. Operation of snowmobiles prohibited, with certain exceptions.

  • A person shall not operate a snowmobile on any roadway, street, alley, waterway or any public property or area, or private property not owned by or under the written, legally authorized control of the owner of the snowmobile, within the corporate limits of this governmental unit, with the following exceptions:

    (1)

    The police chief or his/her designee is hereby authorized to permit the operation of a snowmobile on a roadway when, because of snow or other extreme roadway conditions, conventional motor vehicles cannot be used for necessary transportation.

    (2)

    A snowmobile may be operated on a roadway only for a distance of not more than 500 feet from the operator's principal residence while traveling to an area approved for snowmobile use or between two approved areas. Unless operating between two approved areas, the operator of any snowmobile shall take the most direct route from his or her residence to an area approved for snowmobile use.

    (3)

    A snowmobile may be operated only on the designated route within the corporate limits of the city.

    (4)

    Operation of any snowmobile as permitted in this section shall be limited to the time period of 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

    (5)

    Operation of any snowmobile as permitted in this section shall be limited to a maximum speed of no more than 15 mph.
