§ 94-5. Truck routes.

  • (a)

    Commercial vehicles shall be allowed only on those streets under the jurisdiction of the city which are designated as truck routes.

    (b)

    The city council at an official meeting shall designate which streets or portions thereof shall be a truck route, by the adoption of an appropriate resolution indicating such.

    (c)

    All streets or portions thereof, designated as a truck route shall be posted as such by appropriate signs.

    (d)

    A commercial vehicle as used in this section means any vehicle requiring a CDL (commercial drivers license) to operate.

    (e)

    This section shall not apply to commercial vehicles making local deliveries to or doing business with city businesses, establishments or residences or vehicles delivering service to a residential neighborhood and making consecutive multiple stops within close proximity to each other not served by truck routes. A commercial vehicle making local deliveries to or doing business with city businesses, establishments or residences not located on a designated truck route shall use a designated truck route to achieve the closest proximity to the delivery or service site prior to leaving the truck route. Once the delivery or service is completed, the route to access the site shall be the return route used to access the designated route.

    (f)

    Commercial vehicles designed for carrying passengers, i.e., school buses, dial-a-ride buses, tour buses, and other similar vehicles shall be exempt from compliance with this section.

    (g)

    The city engineer and city manager shall have the authority to provide a temporary waiver of the truck route and designate a specified route when in the opinion and agreement of both the engineer and the manager that the waiver is justified and the route selected provides the least impact to the citizens and streets of the city.
